In this book I have followed Klay & his friends/family and it's been great to get to know them more and more throughout. I am actually quite jealous of their world really and the adventure that Klay goes through!
The scenery in which they live in is lush! Just imagine this: "The ancient trees rise and fall and swing and bend without anything to obstruct them and the animals are just as free" For me the author really sets the scenes beautifully and it reminds me a bit of an Avatar experience.
Having not properly read a book my whole life, I was weirdly upset to finish Aquila. It’s the first time I’ve read a book and just been lost in imagination. Glorious scenery, Klay’s journey you share alongside and intense scenes result in a book that you can’t help but read on. Similar to The Narnia Chronicles, links to biblical features are intertwined throughout. It does get you thinking when the author refers to certain things regarding the christian faith.
Would highly recommend this book!
A truly exciting story with beautiful and intriguing characters, set in a stunning world with natural beauty and yet, with some sinister goings-on bubbling beneath the surface. I was hooked from the start and couldn't wait to see where the adventures would lead. The world of Arqensia is both starkly different to ours and yet familiar at the same time. Klay, a boy nearing adulthood is thrown into an epic adventure he did not expect - one which alters his whole worldview. A must read!
This is a powerful book. I loved the imagery, characters and the story.
The people you meet are believable with real depth, they are funny and effortlessly wise. The world they inhibit is beautifully described and leaves me wishing I could visit!
The story has this lovely sense of flow - it can be slow and steady and full of detail, and then rapid and action packed on the next page which makes for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.
The ending is wildly entertaining - a joy to read.
Benjamin George's book,Aquila is a very exciting story (it's the first book of the series). It's a fantasy fiction story about a boy called Clay who gets called to follow the outlawed and mysterious way of the Aquila. His friend, Refi, also gets the same calling. They soon face opposition from the governments secret police the, Forti. I thought it was a very good book, and look forward to reading the other two books Benjamin will write.
I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed every page and didn't want it to end! It really was the perfect holiday read - imaginative, deftly written and hugely entertaining. I loved the characters and was enthralled by the plot which immerses the reader into a world where there is both beauty to discover and evil to overcome.
In short, this is a fast paced novel with suspense, humour and excitement which makes it a highly enjoyable read.
I can't wait for the next in the series!
The author takes us on an adventure into a literal new world where the characters focused on are marked for new purposes and begin to see holes in their societal structures and awaken to truths not realised before. Drawing on some deep themes of ‘coming of age’, rights of passage, questioning the narrative, complex family relationships, friendships, forgiveness, and higher purpose you travel with the characters on both a physical and an emotional journey.
This is a great read.
